Back in October 2017, Weston-super-Mare’s Chamber of Commerce, together with the Weston Mercury, launched a Surfers Against Sewage campaign for Weston to become an approved Plastic-free community. As a dedicated group, we have been working hard to reduce the single-use plastic within our community.
Our Cleaner Coastlines campaign campaign meant working with local government, businesses, schools, colleges and youth, church and community groups to help reduce the amount of single-use plastic in our town.
We were absolutely delighted to receive the accreditation from Surfers Against Sewage in August 2018, with over 50+ amazing local business heroes signing up. Being a Plastic-free community doesn’t mean that you won’t see any plastic in Weston-super-Mare, but it demonstrates our commitment and dedication to our community, environment and reducing the amount of plastic pollution here in Weston.
We’re so grateful to our fantastic local businesses who’ve become certified Plastic-free Business Champions, their dedication not only benefits our local community in Weston, but our planet as a whole. To celebrate their efforts and the incredible community that we have here in Weston, make sure you support them by shopping local! Find out more about our Plastic-free Business Champions here.
Our campaign continues to attract more and more environmentally conscious businesses and groups! If you’d like to find out how your business can be recognised as a Plastic-free business champion, or if you have already removed single-use plastic from your business, then please contact Weston’s Plastic-free community lead, Debbie, at info@cleanercoastlines.org.uk for details.
